BEAU DUNN SETS AUCTION RECORD WITH $126k GLAM BARBIE SERIES SALE AT PHILLIPS

Beau Dunn has set a new auction record with $126,000.00 sale of a completed set of six (6) Glam Barbies today at Phillips Auction House in New York City. Adorned with hundreds of thousands of Swarovski Crystals, Dunn’s Glam Barbie series was part of the 20th Century & Contemporary Art Day Sale run by Rebekah Bowling at 2pm EST this afternoon.
Through her multimedia practice, Beau Dunn explores American materialism by filtering our image-obsessed culture through the lens of childhood innocence. Through her practice, Barbie Dolls are a recurring motif for the artist, as seen in her 2021 chromogenic print and Swarovski crystals on panel work. Female artists are currently among the some top performers at Phillips in recent auctions in 2021, demonstrating the broad strength of emerging artists as well as blue-chip names. Dunn’s first auction was also with Phillip’s in London of 2014, and since then the artists works have risen almost 40% over the past years.
